How much can a heat pump save?

A well-selected heat pump can use up to 75% less electricity than a conventional electric hot water system. Victorian Government estimates indicate that households replacing gas hot water may save around $400 per year. Your actual savings will depend on household size, your existing system, electricity tariff, solar generation and hot-water use. Our assessment helps us estimate whether a heat pump is likely to deliver worthwhile savings for your home.

What Victorian rebates are available?

Eligible Victorian homeowners may receive a Solar Victoria hot water rebate covering 50% of the system cost after other discounts, up to $1,000—or up to $1,400 for an eligible locally made product. An additional Victorian Energy Upgrades discount may also apply. Eligibility depends on factors including household income, property value, the existing hot water system and the product selected. We’ll check the available incentives before preparing your recommendation.

Can a heat pump work with solar?

Yes. A heat pump can be scheduled to run during daylight hours, allowing it to use more of the electricity generated by your solar panels. The heated water is then stored in the tank for use later—effectively turning it into a simple form of thermal energy storage. We’ll consider your solar system, household routine and hot-water demand when recommending the most suitable tank size and operating schedule.

How long does installation take?

Most straightforward heat pump replacements can be completed within one working day. This generally includes removing the existing system, installing the new heat pump and tank, completing the plumbing and electrical work, and commissioning the unit. More complex installations may take longer if access is difficult, the system needs to be relocated or electrical upgrades are required. We’ll identify these details before confirming the installation.

What qualifications do the installers have?

Your heat pump hot water system is installed by appropriately licensed Victorian tradespeople. Plumbing work is completed or supervised by a licensed plumber with the relevant water-supply accreditation, plus gasfitting, refrigerated air-conditioning and refrigerant-handling qualifications where required. Electrical work is completed by a licensed A‑Grade electrician, and the applicable plumbing compliance and electrical safety certificates are provided. Where a VEU discount applies, the installation is also delivered through an accredited VEU provider.
